MH Ducati – The Mike Hailwood Legend
Mike Hailwood was a British professional motorcycle racer and racing driver, widely regarded as one of the greatest competitors in motorsport history. A nine-time world champion, he amassed an extraordinary 76 Grand Prix victories, 14 Isle of Man TT wins, and four consecutive 500 cc World Championships. After dominating motorcycle racing, Hailwood transitioned to Formula One and other car-racing categories, becoming one of the rare athletes to compete at Grand Prix level on both two and four wheels. Remarkably, he returned to motorcycle racing at age 38.
In 1978, Hailwood staged one of the most celebrated comebacks of all time, winning the Isle of Man Formula 1 TT aboard a Ducati 900 SuperSport prepared by NCR. This historic triumph led Ducati to release the 900 MHR (Mike Hailwood Replica) the following year.
Few motorcycles enjoy the legendary status of Hailwood's TT-winning Ducati NCR 900F1. Over four decades later, the replicas remain among the most admired Italian classics ever built—capturing the spirit, style, and presence of the original race machine. Ducati made subtle refinements for road use, including a two-piece fairing for easier servicing, Brembo brakes, and Conti silencers, all while staying faithful to the race-bred character.
Our Hailwood Replica came from renowned racer and Italian classic motorcycle expert Pietro Di Marino. With Pietro's help, the bike received a fresh repaint, re-chroming, and a professionally detailed engine. The result is a beautiful and authentic example of an iconic Italian racer.
For Sale
Offered for sale is this 1983 Ducati 900 MHR, showing 38,899 miles, expertly presented by Man Cave Bikes.
This particular example carries even greater significance thanks to its registration number:
MHR 900R — an especially important and desirable plate, included with the bike.
Additionally, 1983 marks the end of an era, as this model was the last of the kick-start Ducatis before the introduction of the later electric-start versions—machines that became known for their reliability issues. Purists and collectors alike consistently favour these earlier, more robust kick-start models.
