Description

Currently being prepared for sale at Man Cave Cars & Classics, West Sussex

The 63 Split Window Stingray is one of the most recognisable and desirable American sports cars ever produced, This ensures that it will always be a firm favourite and a solid investment

The 1963 model marked the beginning of the second-generation Corvette and was the only year Chevrolet produced the famous split rear window, making it instantly identifiable and highly prized by collectors worldwide. Just 10, 594 Split-Window Coupes were produced before Chevrolet abandoned the design for 1964, ensuring the '63 remains one of the landmark Corvettes.

Our car is particularly interesting, finished in its correct-style Ermine White with Saddle interior and equipped with the 327ci V8 and Powerglide automatic transmission.

Only 2, 621 Corvettes of all body styles were ordered with Powerglide in 1963, making the automatic specification considerably less common than the four-speed cars normally encountered.

The car retains a very pleasing, period-correct presentation, with the correct-type the details below engine block, distinctive finned Chevrolet rocker covers and classic Powerglide centre-console selector.

* Further number and specification verification is currently being carried out as part of our preparation process.

The 1963 Split-Window sits at the very top table of collectible Corvettes. Its combination of one-year-only styling, limited production, historical importance and unmistakable design has made it a genuine blue-chip American classic.

Currently undergoing preparation and detailed inspection prior to being offered for sale.

Further photographs, specification, history and pricing will be released shortly by Man Cave Cars & Classics, West Sussex.

Vehicle Info
The VIN plate reads as follows:

30837S107470

This decodes as:

3 = 1963 model year
08 = Corvette
37 = Coupe
S = St. Louis assembly
107470 = production sequence number

Thus a genuine 1963 Corvette Coupe — the one-year-only Split-Window body style.

The trim / data plate decodes as:

STYLE 63 837 — confirms 1963 Corvette Coupe
BODY 4090 — approximately the 4, 090th coupe body in its body-production sequence
TRIM 490 XL — this is a Saddle vinyl coupe interior code. Contemporary Corvette coding references list 490E/ N/ U/ XJ/ XL as Saddle vinyl coupe trim.
PAINT 936A — Ermine White.

For 1963, Chevrolet built 10, 594 Split-Window Coupes, while only 2, 621 Corvettes of both body styles combined were fitted with the M35 Powerglide 2-speed automatic. Of those automatics, 1, 116 had the 250 hp 327 and 1, 505 had the 300 hp 327.
