1934 Sunbeam Twenty-Five Saloon 25
🏁 1934 Sunbeam Twenty-Five 4-Door Saloon
A distinguished and well-maintained example of pre-war British motoring excellence
14th November - Update
Sunbeam's rise to greatness came during the Louis Coatalen era (1909–1933), when the Wolverhampton firm produced some of Britain's finest sporting cars and world-beating record machines—including the legendary 1,000hp Sunbeam that achieved 203.79mph in 1927. Their road cars were equally admired for superb build quality and refinement, winning favour among high society; even HRH the Duke of Gloucester owned and cherished a Sunbeam 25hp.
Introduced in 1933 as the flagship of the range, the Sunbeam 25hp offered true luxury motoring. Powered by a smooth and robust 3,317cc six-cylinder OHV engine with seven main bearings, it delivered excellent pulling power and near-80mph performance. At £875 when new, it was a car reserved for only the wealthiest motorists.
Driving refinement was a key feature: a four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on the top two ratios and hydraulic brakes on all four wheels made the 25hp feel advanced and assured on the road.
Highly respected today, the model is eligible for VSCC PVT (Post Vintage Thoroughbred) events, adding to its desirability and offering superb opportunities for historic motoring.

This elegant 1934 Sunbeam Twenty-Five Saloon embodies the luxury and craftsmanship that defined Sunbeam during the early 1930s. Powered by the marque's smooth 3.3-litre straight-six engine and paired with a four-speed manual gearbox featuring synchromesh on the upper ratios, the Twenty-Five delivers refined, effortless performance — a hallmark of Sunbeam's engineering pedigree.
Finished in classic blue coachwork with contrasting wings, the paint presents as very respectable throughout, showing only gentle patina consistent with careful use. The car is structurally sound and rust-free, reflecting years of attentive ownership and ongoing maintenance.
Mechanically, this Sunbeam is in very good condition. The engine fires up smoothly and settles into a quiet, confident idle. Having personally driven the car, we can confirm it is an absolute pleasure on the road — the gears engage cleanly, the clutch feels precise, and the hydraulic brakes inspire confidence.
Inside, the cabin remains tidy and presentable, trimmed in period-style leather with a polished walnut dashboard and door cappings that showcase the elegance of 1930s craftsmanship. The overall impression is one of a genuinely well-sorted classic that's ready for enjoyable use or gentle show presentation.
